Balochistan: Husband nominated in murder case of journalist Shahina Shaheen

 


The murder case of Shahina Baloch, a well-known female social worker, artist, and journalist from Ketch district of Balochistan, has been named after her husband who brought her to the hospital in a critical condition yesterday and then went into hiding. Shahina was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in a critical condition by a man named Mehrab Gachki but succumbed to her injuries. A case of the murder of Shahina Baloch has been registered in the Turbat police station on the complaint of her uncle Ahmed Ali. The FIR states that Nawabzada Mehrab Gachki and Shahina had a court marriage in Karachi five months ago. 

According to the FIR, Mehrab Gachki shot dead Shahina with his 9mm pistol in a quarter of PTCL Colony in Turbat city and escaped after taking her to hospital in critical condition. According to Ketch police, raids are being carried out to nab the accused but no arrest has been made so far. Shahina Shaheen was shot dead on Saturday. After the incident, SSP Najeeb Pindarani of Ketch Police told the BBC over the phone that Shahina was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital by a man named Mehrab Gachki but succumbed to her injuries. He said that the person who took Shahina Shaheen to the hospital left the hospital saying that he would bring the women of his house to the hospital. While studying at the University of Quetta, she also hosted PTV Bolan's morning show in Balochi.

Who was Shahina Shaheen? Shahina Shaheen hailed from Turbat, the headquarters of the Kich border district of Balochistan, which borders Iran. He received his early education in Turbat and later enrolled at the University of Balochistan to pursue a degree in Fine Arts.  He not only earned a BS degree in Fine Arts in 2018 but also won a gold medal for his intelligence. He also obtained his MA degree in the Balochi language in 2019 with the first position. She was also involved in journalism and was the editor of a Baloch magazine, Dazgahar (Friend). While studying at the University of Quetta, she also hosted a PTV Bolan morning show in Balochi.  Shahina Baloch had no brothers but five sisters. In the year 2018, when the paintings of the final year students of Fine Arts were exhibited at the University of Balochistan, Shahina's paintings were not only included but also prominent in every way.

He also painted his mother and four sisters during the exhibition at the university. Referring to the paintings, he said that he has no brother but these women are his strength and he has reached this place with their help. She was the first girl from a remote area like Turbat to work on TV.   When her paintings were appreciated by the people in the exhibition, she was very happy and expressed the opinion that she did not expect people to like her work very much.  He said that he was very happy and did not have the courage to tell his family about his happiness. She also wanted to showcase her work nationally and internationally, saying that she wanted to show how much potential there is in the women of Balochistan. She also vowed to work for women's issues because only a woman can better understand women's issues. One of her classmates, Najib Baloch, lamented her murder, saying she was a very talented and dynamic woman. He said that Shahina Shaheen had reached this place by her own efforts. She not only won a gold medal among herself but also topped the Balochi language as a private student. She said that she was the brightest student in the class and was always ready to help others. She said she was a champion of women's rights and equality in all walks of life.
