Islamabad Airport: Reaction on social media for roof damage in rains, 'Corruption is raining'

Watch: Newly built Islamabad airport's ceiling begins to crumble during heavy rain | Pakistan News,The Indian Express

A video from New Islamabad International Airport, the federal capital of Pakistan, has made headlines on social media and local media. This video, which has been circulating since yesterday, shows how the roof and walls of the airport are crumbling during the rains in Islamabad. In response to the video, people have expressed outrage, while leaders of political parties have also blamed each other. In response, the Director-General of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) took note of the damage caused by the rains and said that the torrential rains had damaged the roof of the airport. A report in this regard has been sought in three days.  According to the airport manager, rainwater collected on the roof of the passenger terminal caused water to leak and damaged the sailing.  The CAA said in a statement that a number of options were being considered to address this, such as preventing rainwater from accumulating on the roof through multiple pipes or changing the overall design of the roof drainage system. The CAA says the federal aviation minister will visit the airport on August 17. In a tweet, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Political Affairs Shahbaz Gul slammed the PML-N over the issue. He said that with every rain, the building starts filling up from one place or another. "If any institution asks them a question, they will attack it with a group. After all, relatives have such a right.

Journalist Hamid Mir shared this video and wrote: "It is true but it is a matter of shame." The airport of a country's capital is his first and last impression. This should not be the first impression for a country that wants to promote tourism.  A user named Imran Ashraf wrote: “These scenes are from Islamabad International Airport. It's not been eight days since it was ready and the roof is dripping like a 100-year-old airport.  Khaliq Kayani wrote that the contractors, engineers, and officers of this airport should be blacklisted. One user wrote in response to his tweet that "corruption is raining down."  Another user said it could be due to an AC system that may not have been properly repaired. "It would not be right to blame anyone without an investigation."  It may be recalled that Islamabad Airport was inaugurated on April 20, 2018, and cost billions of dollars. According to the airport's website, it can accommodate 9 million passengers at a time.
