According to police, the angry mob demanded that an FIR be registered and the MLA's relative be arrested immediately as it has hurt his religious sentiments. As soon as they saw it, the mob got out of control and set fire to some vehicles parked outside the police station while the mob that had gathered outside the MLA's house also set fire to some vehicles parked there.  According to the police commissioner, the person who posted on social media has been arrested.  The police commissioner said: 'The policemen were attacked by the mob with large stones. Then suddenly the power went out and it took us a while to deal with the crowd. As the police station was being attacked from all sides, the police had no choice but to shoot.  Karnataka Home Minister Basuraj Bomai has also confirmed that two people were killed in the police firing.  The MLA has released a video appealing to Muslims to remain calm and assuring them that they are with them and action will be taken in this regard.

The MLA said in the video: 'Whatever the case, we are all brothers. We will ensure that those responsible are properly punished. I am with you I ask you to keep the peace.

The Karnataka Home Minister also released a video message saying that 'arson and violence are against the law. Whatever the case, it must be resolved within the law. I have ordered the police to restore peace. No matter how big the person is, we will make sure that strict action is taken. Whoever is responsible for this will be severely punished. I assure you that no one will be forgiven.  Ameer Shariat Maulana Saghir Ahmed of Karnataka has also appealed to the Muslims to maintain peace as the police have promised that whoever has committed this objectionable act will be punished. He told the people not to take the law into their own hands, the government would take action.
