Karachi plane crash: Death toll rises to 66
Health officials have so far confirmed the deaths of 66 people in a plane crash in Karachi on Friday afternoon, but only five have been identified so far. The plane was carrying 99 people, two of whom miraculously survived the crash.
According to a Health Department spokesman, 41 bodies have been brought to Jinnah Hospital so far, while Civil Hospital officials say there are 25 bodies there.
In a press conference on Friday night, PIA chairman Arshad Malik said that no one was killed on the ground in the accident.
He said the ongoing rescue operation at the crash site could take two to three days to complete
The federal government has formed a four-member committee to investigate the crash of a PIA passenger plane in Karachi.
According to a notification issued in this regard, the committee of inquiry will be headed by Air Commodore Muhammad Usman Ghani, Chairman, Aircraft Accident and Investigation Board.
Its other members include Wing Commander Malik Mohammad Imran, Group Captain Tauqeer and Nasir Majeed.
The committee has been directed to complete its investigation and submit its report as soon as possible. However, the committee has also been directed to submit its preliminary report within a month.
