India has also included Pakistan-administered Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan in its weather coverage following a newsletter on its national television Dordarshan and All India Radio last week.
The weather in these areas is being forecast in the same way as the weather in other parts of the country.
At a time when the whole world is battling the Corona epidemic and there are thousands of Corona patients in India itself, the number is constantly increasing, what could be the reason for this sudden step by India?
This is the first time that the Indian Meteorological Department has started weather reports for the cities of Gilgit-Baltistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, Mirpur and Muzaffarabad. The weather in Muzaffarabad, Skardu and Neelum Valley under the North West Sub-Division is now being reported daily on the website of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
IMD chief Martunje Mohapatra said, “The Meteorological Department releases weather forecasts for the entire Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh region. We are mentioning Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad in the weather news because they are part of India.
It is noteworthy that this decision was taken a day after the recent decision of the Supreme Court of Pakistan to hold elections in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Indian Foreign Minister SJ Shankar had said last September that Pakistan-administered Kashmir "belongs to India and we expect it to one day formally become part of India".
Some experts believe that this is a sign of a major shift in India's position on Pakistan. India's Hindustan Times, in a report, quoted some government officials as saying that it was National Security Adviser Ajit Doval's idea to include Pakistan-administered territories in India's weather coverage.
According to the report, a formal proposal in this regard was prepared three months ago. It was sent from the office of the Deputy National Security Adviser to the Foreign and Interior Secretaries. It was also sent to the Intelligence Bureau and the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). Its final approval came about two weeks ago.
Official sources say the main purpose of the move is to send a message that "this is my territory and every step is being taken to assert our supremacy."
The newspaper quoted another senior official as saying that India wanted to send a clear message to Pakistan and its allies that "Islamabad is illegally occupying 86,000 sq km of Jammu and Kashmir."
It is noteworthy that in this era of global corona virus epidemic when complete lockdown is in force in India and Kashmir under its administration, the government has taken several basic decisions like 'domicile law' in Kashmir. It is also important to note that about 25 militants have been killed in security operations in Jammu and Kashmir since April.
Pro-right-wing TV channels in Delhi have praised the government's move on Kashmir. After the death of the commander of the extremist organization Hizb-ul-Mujahideen in Kashmir, Pakistan has once again come under discussion and news on TV channels regarding Hizb-ul-Mujahideen and Jaish-e-Muhammad.
Some analysts believe that measures related to Kashmir may also be related to the situation in Corona. In his view, the manner in which the government handled the situation of migrant workers from other cities to the big cities and the current situation has tarnished the image of the government and angered a large section of the population of the country. Pakistan can be effective in diverting attention from the difficult situation in Corona.
