Record of more than 5000 victims in a single day in India

In the last 24 hours, 5,242 cases of corona virus have been reported in India. This is the largest number of victims in a single day in the country so far. The government in India has also started easing lockdown restrictions. With 56,000 patients, the total number of victims so far is 96,169. The lockdown has been extended to May 31, but some essential shops and businesses have reopened.

Buses are now allowed to run in cities and rural areas of the country and if allowed, they will be able to enter from one state to another.

The easing of lockdowns is seen as essential to India's deteriorating economy, where the number of unemployed has crossed 120 million.
