Turkey: A man convicted of attacking a nightclub in Istanbul has been sentenced to 40 years in prison



 A Turkish court has sentenced a man to life in prison and life in prison for killing 39 people in an attack on a nightclub in Istanbul. Abdulkadir Masharpov, an Uzbek citizen, had earlier been convicted of the attack and was sentenced by a court 40 times to life in prison on Monday. The trial of a nightclub attack in Istanbul has been going on for the past three years. The attack came just an hour after the start of the new year in 2017. The Islamic State militant group claimed responsibility for the attack. According to the Turkish news agency Anadolu, Abdelkader Masharpov was convicted of premeditated murder and violating the Turkish constitution. They will not receive temporary release or parole. In addition to these prison sentences, he will have to spend another 1368 years in prison for injuring 79 people and possessing unlicensed firearms. Another man involved in the attack, Ilyas Mamasherpev, was sentenced to a total of 1,400 years in prison. A total of 48 members of the militant group have been sentenced to life in prison, while 11 others have been acquitted.

At about 1:30 a.m. after the start of the New Year, as people were celebrating the New Year, a gunman opened fire at a nightclub in the northern part of Istanbul, Rena. Masharpov arrived at the nightclub in a taxi. He pulled out an automatic rifle from the trunk of the car and entered the nightclub. Footage from surveillance cameras showed that the shooting took place in the parking lot before entering the club. It started and bullets were hitting the cars parked in the parking lot and scattering here and there. Masharpov also used a head grenade during the relentless firing, during which he repeatedly loaded his gun. The dead and wounded included citizens of Israel, France, Tunisia, Lebanon, India, Belgium, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia. The Uzbek attacker was arrested on January 17, 2017, after a search. Police in Turkey has carried out dozens of raids on suspected Islamic State targets. In July this year, 27 suspects were arrested on suspicion of carrying out extremist activities in the city. The government claims to have arrested the leader of the Islamic State in Turkey.
